Big 10 Circle – going in a loop!

There was one thing missing in our local transport system, and that was a connectivity throughout the entire outer ring road or PRR or whatever they call it by now. There were buses from Banashankari to Hebbal, or from Hebbal to Mysore road, etc. But there was no Big 10 linking the points where other BIG 10’s deviated outside the city.  This is when I noticed the Big 10 Circle.

While I was wondering how different it is from the usual 500 series of buses (volvo and non volvo) that loiter around the ORR, I could only imagine that this Big 10 Circle might actually link all those roads where the other Big 10’s would intersect at. So now, I can always take a Big 10 to enter the city, and exit the city with yet another one, and just in case I decide I need a circular detour, can pick up where I left on Big 10 Circle. More information on Big 10 circle is available here.

So the link says 500 series is to go and about 200 odd Big 10 circle buses to operate. Now thats quite a lot, and one can expect a Big 10 circle bus every something like 10 minutes at this case. 200 buses on a 77km road mean something like 1 bus every kilometer at any point? Wow those figures will surely do a great deal of good.

But one last thing. I can get down from a Big 10 at Mayo Hall, but to catch an outgoing Big 10 towards north Bangalore, I would have to catch another at Shivajinagar. And hey people at BMTC dont be dumb to assume everyone can walk that distance. I request BMTC to please please move the buses coming in to shivajinagar further to Mayo Hall to just give that desperately needed connection which would make Big 10 a success Story.

Ok then, looking forward to a Big 10 Circle in front of my office every 10 minutes! 🙂

From Orange to Black in one year!

Buy a house, get a mercedes free, Buy a flat stay along with a cricketer all your life (wondering doing what? batting and bowling along with him leaving my daily duties?), Buy a house, get gold jewelry in kilograms absolutely free. Wow. The way they were marketing their properties itself made a person feel Orange properties were upto nothing. Adding fuel to the fire they even started off a furniture mela, and an electronics exchange mela. Again things which were unbelieveable.

Well within a year, the colour has worn off. They are Black (listed) properties with criminal proceedings initiated against them now. Why? Since they did not deliver anything of what they promised but only ran away with investors money! Unbelieveable? well not really so. It was masterminded to absolute predictability. Yet we people never learn to listen to our intuition. Check it out yourself.

Real estate is back on a roll, get ready suckers :)

Someone told me the economy would take at least one year to recover. And I believed it to be so, until I saw these advertisements in the papers a few days back. Most of the ads seemed to scream: “Now is the time to buy an apartment, don’t let this chance go away, at just only yours truly 1 crore”. My quesiton is whether even 1/4 of the educated India population know how many zeroes are there to a crore. Yeah obviously only businessmen would buy such properties you and I may think, but there are a few ABCDs who are now ABReturnedDs who are smelling of green bills and some unfortunate mortals who also believe that they are in the same league only with a 75 lakh housing loan which will kill them shortly and eventually.

Look and click at the ads and you know what I am referring to.

While Mantri and Confident were just as usual marketing unaffordable stuff in some unnamed corner of Bengaluru, there are now a new set of new entrants of new offshoots of known big builders who are trying to cater to the “LOW END” 😀 people of Bengaluru who have now been pushed to being low end, due to their fate rather than anything else.

Our very own DSMax contributed to some newspaper real estate with their mini offerings all over Bengaluru. ND, Nitesh Estates and Salarpuria were showing off their age old offerings in a new colourful photograph. The ozonegroup was marketing its already marketed property “evergreens” for which it has found no takers until now.

Artha money is the new Orange Properties ka Baap trying to help every disoriented developer sell off his assets. I know how life can get when one gets disoriented. Even a small advice can make someone so gullible that he will fall for anything and everything. Its the same logic what some great netas use on the “aaaaaaaam admi”. Barring these Purvankaras new arm provident homes, and CSC led by mphasis ceo jerry rao and others of jaanagraha fame, are perhaps the only affordable stuff around Bengaluru. Note that I said “Around Bengaluru” – not in Bengaluru 😀 These guys are promising affordable homes at 17 lacs and 7 lacs respectively. We have to wait and see whether a person can enter a 7 lac house in the first place!

One thing is clear. As long as suckers like you and me are there in India, the builders will continue the exploitation and take us to even greater depths of agony, insolvency and bankruptcy. Happy home buying suckers!

Sanjaynagar Magic Box finally opens up today

The BDA finally opened up the Sanjaynagar Magic (or Tragic as the case may be) box today after the CM inagurated the same. With this the entire stretch from Hebbal Flyover upto Raj Bhavan is now officially signal free 🙂 We all know the magic box fundas for sometime now, so I ll just leave you with some pictures to relish! Enjoy.

Hopefully BDA now realizes what it is to make the city signal free, and would now start off work on similar lines in other directions of Bengaluru – South, East and West too. Common BDA finish them fast, and Bengaluru will truly be a pleasure to drive in. And at some point you can also make this a toll based road so you can maintain it for sometime to come.

Bengaluru south – the big fight

Today is the great election day, atleast for Bengaluru south constituency. Four prominent candidates are participating this time, for the MP seats. But wait a minute, aren’t there only three prominent parties? The Congress, JDS and BJP? So who and why is there a fourth prominent candidate? Well Captain Gopinath of our very own yours truly cheap airline Air Deccan airline is contesting as an independent this time.

Lets have a look at the candidates in short and see what they really have in them to make it beneficial for us voters.

Krishna Byregowda – Congress

Krishna has crafted for himself a niche as a man responsible for development. As an erstwhile MLA who successfully won from Byatarayanapura, he has proved his might for working for his constituency. With a good educational background and enough exposure to life outside the country as well, Krishna is sure to lead politics in the right fashion. With his many supporters and his charm for canvassing, the young man is sure to be noticed among many circles in Bengaluru as a capable person strong enough to propel Congress and usher developmental programmes as well as more participation of youth.

Ananthkumar – BJP

While Ananth is not less popular, and has won more than once from Bangalore south in recent past, his agenda seems to be a bit unclear. He has varied interests portrayed as part of his manifesto, and his recent spat with Yeddy shows some cracks in the the party and some nonalignment with other people in his own party. Also his age compared to other party candidates and consistency issues in his agenda might work against him this time.

Prof. Radhakrishna – JDS

After drawing flak from the entire citizen crowd of Karnataka for the kind of performance JDS put up both in the coalition with Congress and with BJP, the JDS has sprung up in a new avatar with an educationalist as its candidate. Not much is known by me about Radhakrishna other than the fact that he is noted for educational skills, and also interests in art and culture. But the question is whether he can be of any significant influence for the constituency works, or for garnering the money required for the same in case a different party is in power in the centre. With Krishna Byregowda and Ananth in the fray, chances are pretty slim for JDS, considering the past brickbats earned by the party as well.

Capt. Gopinath – Independent

If someone in Bengaluru says they have not heard of Air Deccan, they must be fools. From a mere avionics man, to running a low cost airline business successfully, Gopi has proved that he has what it takes to get into a political high flyer status – his Kite Symbol. With perhaps the least amount of assets, and the least money spent on canvassing, he has done more of smart appearances rather than hard work to make his presence felt amongst the people. Considering his simplicity, corporate involvement, and will power to try out politics, one can be sure he would divide the vote share that would otherwise go to Congress and BJP atleast from the urban voters. Well ultimately he will have to align with one of these parties even if he wins. But the very fact that he won could be quite a nightmare for other parties who have had Bengaluru South as their stronghold for years. The winning chances are pretty slim though for Gopi, but his entrepreneurial spirit must not be discounted.

So the who will it be from Bengaluru south – if you ask my take it would definitely be Krishna Byregowda or Ananthkumar, while the other two fresh faces have a long way to go. So did I then vote for any of these two guys? Wait and find out!

The most criminal thing you can do is to NOT vote today. So get out go the election booth, and give your VOTE to anyone you think is idealistic for your liking. Its a keen contest and is well worth it.

Web hosts and deciding for yourself which ones to choose

In my past ten years of my web designing, I have had the need to switch my web hosts for many different reasons. Either the web host would one day pack up and not exist the next day, or their webservers would go horribly wrong with errors each time and take a long time to get alright. Or maybe sometimes I’ve wanted to upgrade from paying just one dollar to maybe something more for more facilities. Whatever has been the reason, I’ve always wanted a single place on the internet which gave me a clear picture of the existing webhosts who were popular during that time, along with details of their pricing and how many facilities and what did they have to offer. Most of all, I wanted to have all this in one place.

One such website that provides me this concise information is web hosting rating. They have a very nice site, listing out the top 10 webhosts and predominantly display their traffic offering and price offering, enabling readers to have a birds eye glance of what they need to choose. Also a detailed review of each web host service is available when the user clicks from the front page, giving more than enough details of the intricacies of the facilities offered by them.

They also have an educational set of articles about the web hosting practices, the costing, and what it means to choose a good host. You can see this article for instance which talks about a review of a particular host.

So what are you waiting for? Check out the best web hosts of 2008 and sign up with the one you think is worth it in your opinion. Make an informed decision and get the best for your website!

CBI junction Magic Box – yet to work its magic

Nowadays I have become a frequent traveler on Bellary road to my office and I cant help but ponder over the status of the CBI junction magic box work that is going on for almost months together now. Yesterday I happened to see a hoarding put up and I almost from its apperance thought that its ready for inaguration. But however upon looking closer I made out that without even tarring up the road, it was next to impossible to inagurate it.

Then upon looking even closer, I realized that its the Ganganagar BJP unit, which had put up the hoarding to welcome Rajnath Singh and Advani to Bangalore. I am sort of miffed with the way BJP is operating just because it has got a long term government in place. They dont seem to realize that roads are chaotic everywhere, and absolutely no progress has been made towards resolving these issues amongst other infrastructural ones pending so far.

With this said I do hope that they finish up CBI junction magic box on time and then we must have a smooth drive all the way from Raj Bhavan upto Hebbal Flyover and beyond!

The Bengaluru International Airport, music to my ears!

Today i was glancing through the Deccan Herald newspaper, which quotes thus regarding the BIAL.

For the HAL Airport, the shift will be abrupt. The curtains will fall right after 8 pm on March 29, the deadline set for all landings to cease there. “All flights after 20.00 hours will land at Devanahalli

and

Despite demands to retain the HAL Airport at least for domestic flights, the new airport’s operationalisation would mean an end to the old aerodrome. It will be an absolute shutdown for HAL airport, and an absolute opening for the Bengaluru International Airport

For a tortured soul living in Koramangala, for the past 25 years of which the last 20 years have seen a spurt in the amount of flights nothing can be better than this news. Its like soothing a baby with sugar in the mouth or by singing a lullaby to a stressed out soul like me! Atleast 30 flights a day at a span of every half hour and a gazillion international flights wrecking my sleep daily upto 1am and a restart at 6am, my sleep was reduced to just 5 hours a day. Thanks to BIAL the tables are now reversed. While I would get my share of sleep peacefully its the travellers who would lose their sleep perenially travelling up and down to the new Airport !

The BIAL unvieled its new logo which is extremely synonymous with old Bengaluru – the garden city. Analysts of this new logo also noted that the new logo cautiously stays away from the wrecked IT image of Bengaluru.

So then what exactly does the airport look like as of now? You bet it looks awesome already and is awaiting to cater to the first set of travelers by March end! Good job BIAL!
